Guided Alaska Hunting
Hunting Picture Hunting Picture Hunting Picture
Willie Dvorak I specialize in full service spike camp hunts in extremely remote areas of Alaska. We'll hunt for grizzly brown bear, caribou or moose, whether you're an experienced Alaska hunter for a first-time Alaska hunter looking for the best trophy hunting Alaska has to offer. Black bear, wolf and wolverine hunting are also available on my combo hunts. These combo hunts offer the best bang for your buck. Unguided, fully outfitted hunts are also available on a limited first-come-first-serve basis. If you are interested in going on the hunting trip of your lifetime, contact me today.

I am a full time outfitter, not a rancher or other businessman that outfits part time.

I and/or my wife go on at least one guided hunt every year so I know what it is like to be the "client".

I take very few clients. That means I only have to find a few exceptional trophies to have a great success and great average trophy score.

WHEN RESEARCHING A HUNT, YOU SHOULD ASK TO SPEAK WITH ALL OF THE CLIENTS WHO HUNTED THE SAME TIME YOU ARE CONSIDERING HUNTING THE PREVIOUS
YEAR. IT IS FOOLISH TO CONSIDER BOOKING A HUNT WITH AN OUTFITTER BEFORE YOU SPEAK WITH HUNTERS WHO HAVE HUNTED THE SAME TIME AND PLACE DURING THE
PREVIOUS SEASON. IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW AHEAD OF TIME WHAT YOU ARE GETTING FOR YOUR MONEY. I AM PROUD OF THE ATTENTION I GIVE MY CLIENTS
BEFORE,DURING, AND AFTER THE HUNT. MOST IMPORTANTLY, DON'T CONSIDER BOOKING A HUNT WITH ANYONE WHO IS NOT WILLING TO SEND YOU THE NAMES AND
NUMBERS AND/OR EMAIL ADDRESSES OF "ALL" OF THE CLIENTS FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR.

Grizzly Brown Bear Hunts

Hunting Picture Hunting Picture
Guided Alaska brown bear hunting is awesome. The Alaskan Brown/Grizzly Bear is the most coveted trophy on the North American continent. Sportsmen from around the world come to Alaska to hunt the biggest and most powerful of all bears, the Alaskan Brown/Grizzly bear. When you see these bears walk across the Alaskan tundra you cannot help but be in awe. Just seeing them will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. Hunting them provides great excitement and a trip you will never forget.

The brown/grizzly bear season starts the first part of September. I conduct hunts through mid-October in southwestern Alaska. I specialize in hunting the interior grizzly. As you have probably read, the interior grizzly numbers are high and success rates on these bears are excellent compared to years past. The Safari Club International considers these bears as grizzly bears while the Boone and Crockett book considers them brown bears.

I hunt out of spike camps. This puts us close to where the action is. We will be camped where preseason scouting has indicated bear activity and where I believe we can hunt effectively. We will do all of our hunting on these hunts in hiking boots and do a great amount of glassing hillsides, mountains, and drainages.

These hunts are ten days long. You will arrive the day before and leave the day after for a scheduled ten days of actually hunting. Upon harvesting an animal, we will fly you back to town as soon as weather permits. On these hunts I have one camp assistant with us to take care of daily camp chores and do additional glassing for us. The more time we spend looking through our binoculars, the better the chance of finding an excellent bear.

Other species can be added to your hunt on a trophy fee basis. These options are available only if the season is open for the species according to the Alaska State Regulations. The grizzly/brown bear package and trophy fee rates are as follows:

Grizzly/Brown Bear 10 Day Hunt:
1x1 ... $10,000
2x1 ... $ 8,000

Trophy fees:
Moose … $5,000
Caribou … $1,500
Black Bear … $1,500
Wolf … $250 (additional wolves no charge)
Wolverine … $500

Any legal weapon in Alaska is permitted on the hunt. The recommended minimum caliber is .300 Win Mag with a .375 H & H a better choice. I would much rather see you arrive in camp with a .300 Mag that you can shoot well than a larger caliber that you are unfamiliar with.

Caribou Hunts

Guided caribou hunting in Alaska is a great way to experience the Alaskan outdoors and hunt one of the most amazing animals on the tundra. Caribou hunting in Alaska is one of the most economical ways of hunting Alaska. Caribou hunts also have the highest success rates. Seeing bands of caribou travel over the hill towards you makes you appreciate life in the Alaskan wilderness. I operate my camps in pursuit of caribou from the Mulchatna caribou herd in southwestern Alaska. In many areas, two caribou are allowed. This is appealing to many hunters because they can shoot the first good bull they see and than try to upgrade. Another nice thing about caribou is the conformation of their racks. Caribou have the biggest antlers in proportion to their body weight of any other animal. The guide will let you know the trophy quality of the bulls and you and him can discuss whether or not you should take him. Don’t hesitate too long though because once you get behind a caribou, you probably won’t get any closer. They cover the tundra at an unbelievable pace. I recommend a minimum caliber of .270 Win for caribou. Occasionally, long shots are needed to take these trophies. Practice close shots but also practice shots out to 200-300 yards.

Caribou season starts the first of August. I hunt them through mid-October. I will fly you into an excellent caribou area the day before your actual hunting starts. You will be scheduled for 7 days of hunting and depart the following day. I offer 7 day hunts because here in Alaska, weather can sometimes cost a day or two of delays in a hunt. The extra days may be needed to find that trophy animal. If you tag out early, it is usually possible to get you back to town early. Email me or call me at 605-887-3561 to visit about Alaska caribou hunting. If I don’t answer, I am probably hunting. Leave a message and I will return it ASAP.

One caribou hunt package
1x1 ... $6,500
2x1 ... $5,300

Trophy fees for extra animals taken on the caribou hunt are as follows:
2nd Caribou … $1,500
Black Bear … $1,500
Wolf … $250 (additional wolves no charge)
Wolverine … $500
Moose Hunts

Hunting Picture Hunting Picture Hunting Picture
Guided moose hunting in Alaska can be a thrill of a lifetime. The hunts take place in September during the start of the rut. Calling a big bull into range is one of the most amazing things you will ever see. It is also one of the most exciting ways of hunting them. The Alaskan moose is the biggest of all moose. Great mass and wide spreads make an awe inspiring site on any trophy room wall.

I will have one camp assistant to take care of camp chores and assist in glassing for your trophy. The camp assistant really earns his keep when it comes time to assist us in packing the moose back to camp or to the pick-up point. An extra set of hands and legs are very welcome.

Moose have to be 50 inches wide or support 4 brow tines in this area to be legal. This helps insure trophy animals for next season and insures that any animal that is legal is a real trophy. It should be said that many hunters feel a moose is a “gimme” animal. This is not the case. Nor is it the case that a bull needs to be 60 inches wide to be a great trophy. The media has promoted this idea to the extent that they have taken something away from the sport of moose hunting. The first bull I ever killed was a young bull standing at 18 yards that I took with a bow on the first day of my first trip. The second bull I killed was a beautiful 56 inch bull that I shot with a .300 Win Mag at less than 100 yards on the second day of my second trip. Not all hunts are that easy. Be assured, a legal bull is a huge animal and to fill your moose tag in the wilds of Alaska will be a feat you will remember for the rest of your life.

I recommend a minimum caliber of 30-06 for moose. The shots on moose are typically less than 100 yards. When you are planning a trip like this, it makes a lot of sense to be well practiced at further distances also. A 30-06 is a great weapon for any of the animals you may include on this hunt on a trophy fee basis with the exception of the grizzly bear. If you intend on hunting a grizzly bear at the same time as a moose, a .300 Win Mag should be considered a minimum caliber. Trophy fee options will be applicable only if the Alaska State Game Regulations have open seasons for the species.

I schedule ten days of hunting on a moose hunt. That means you will arrive in camp the day prior to your hunt starting. The hunt plan will have you leaving eleven days later for a total of ten days hunting. Contact me to discuss an Alaskan moose hunt by emailing me or phone at 605-887-3561. If I don’t answer, I am probably hunting. Leave a message and I will return it ASAP.

The package price of this hunt and a list of other species available on a trophy fee basis follow:

7 day moose hunt:
1x1 ... $12,000
2x1 ... $11,000

Trophy fees:
Grizzly bear ... $4,500
Caribou … $1,500
Black Bear … $1,500
Wolf … $250 (additional wolves no charge)
Wolverine … $500
